A Story to Share

Daniella Repole is one of four Interns that Christine Carlton, Liz Locksley and Lindy Mitchell-Nilsson have been working with to re-imagine the Sydney International Storytelling Conference as a digital event in 2021.

The Storytelling Guild has been engaging students from the University of Technology Sydney through their Internship program.

A Story to Share

Working with the Guild has been an eye-opening experience that has altered my perspective on the art of storytelling and what it means to share a story. This internship has allowed me to become a storyteller and perform to an audience for the first time. The experience made me feel confident and self-assured and allowed me to take a break from study and be creative and free. Planning an event during the new, ever-changing coronavirus lifestyle has allowed me to gain experience for my future endeavours as an Events Manager; learning to be flexible, organised and adaptable. Christine’s knowledge, paired with Lindy’s passion and Liz’s kindness, created a welcoming environment where all interns felt comfortable to be themselves and open up to the new world of storytelling.

My favourite experience of the internship was the small workshop activities that we all participated in as a group, interacting and learning off each other to create our own stories in a short amount of time. The activities were exciting and stimulating and led to the creation of cheeky, unique stories that I will always remember.

At first, the idea of working collaboratively with other interns to create innovative ways to continue the engaging, positive experience of the conference was scary. However, after getting to know each individual and expanding my knowledge and understanding of storytelling, inspiration began to flow. I feel confident in the continuing interns in their ability to create the best online conference experience and exceed all expectations. I would like to thank Christine for guiding me through my internship, as her passion, inspiration and determination allowed me to feel confident and comfortable.

Overall, this experience has been enjoyable and eye-opening, allowing me to learn life-long skills, meet new people and make new friends. I wish the best for the future endeavours of the guild and will be eagerly waiting for updates and photos from the 2021 conference.
