ABOUT THE WORKSHOP
This is a practical one-day workshop designed to challenge and enhance the participants’ storytelling skills, so as to acknowledge and engage children and adults with communication challenges. For those who have attended previous workshops with Louise, this is an opportunity to deepen their application of Lis'n Tell techniques.
We will explore:
● From the biographical to the 'magical' - exercises in narrative and imagination
● The ʻIntroʼ and the ʻOutroʼ of the story, and importance of these for attention levels and understanding
● Rhythm and role, rhyme, repetition and ritual, how these techniques facilitate and enhance learning, communication and social skills, with reference to research and evidence
● Voice and gesture techniques to enhance storytelling skills, memory, learning, communication and social skills
● Practising the art of pausing, and call and response to promote spontaneous participation
● Demonstrations, questions and discussion
● Seeing and placing what you are saying - exercising the imagination

ABOUT LOUISE COIGLEY (RCSLT Cert. HPC (reg) MASLTIP)
Louise Coigley is an Independent Speech and Language Therapist and trained storyteller based in the UK. She began evolving Live Inclusive Storytelling (Lis'n Tell) as a dynamic and versatile approach to speech and language therapy over twenty five years ago.
She lived and worked in Camphill Communities for eleven years, with children and adults with SEN and Autism. She has also worked for many years with the NHS, in schools and clinics with a varied caseload
Louise is an experienced international trainer. She presented Lis'n Tell at the 2007 National Conference of Speech Pathology Australia (SPA) and ran very successful training for SPA in 2016. She has presented her evaluative Lis'n Tell research, conducted with Brighton Sussex Medical School, at the London Speech and Language Therapy Autism Special Interest Group.
Her work has been credited with inspiring the founding of The UK Frozen Light Theatre Company, delivering inclusive performances for children with Autism and Complex Communication Needs. She has also coached Australia’s Sensorium Theatre Company. Louise is a guest lecturer at Greenwich Medway University, UK.
Since 2012, Louise regularly collaborates with Gina Davies in delivering training in her ground-breaking approach: Attention Autism. In 2012, Louise was invited to launch a series of workshops for children with Autistic Spectrum Condition (ASC), at The V&A Museum of Childhood, London, to celebrate World Autism Awareness Day, and has recently been employed as a trainer by The Museum of London.
In 2009, Louise collaborative show, ‘It was a Dark and Stormy Night’, was in the Top 5 Hitlist of Children’s Performances . Louise has also performed to two thousand children in one day, integrating children with Hearing Impairment, Downs Syndrome and Autism into Primary School audiences. She is an associate teacher at The International School of Storytelling, Emerson College, UK.
In 2019 Louise will embark on the first part of what she hopes will be her PhD journey into storytelling and Lis'n Tell, beginning an MPhil at City University London, under Professor Vicky Joffe.
