Newsletter for February 2009
Welcome to the February 2009 Edition 19 of the Online Newsletter for The Australian Storytelling Guild (NSW) Inc.
HAPPY NEW YEAR!
It’s a very busy year coming up as you will have noted from our earlier email with the 2009 Events Calendar. Please email suestory@tpg.com.au if you haven’t received your copy.
The year got off to a great start with Australia Day at Old Government House. The Storytellers – Sue Alvarez, Barbara Castledine, Pam Chant, Jo Henwood and Stephen Martin – were kept extremely busy throughout the day. Big thanks to Leigh and Stephen for their excellent boy scout skills in putting up our two new gazebos which looked terrific. These will be put to good use again on St Patrick’s Day and the Norman Lindsay Children’s Festival.
SATURDAY 14 FEBRUARY – first Guild meeting for 2009 which will be held at the NSW WRITERS’ CENTRE, CALLAN PARK, ROZELLE.
9.30 President’s news
10.00 Presentation of Accreditation Certificates to Annie Eyers, Stephanie Parello and Kiran Shah and cutting of the ceremonial cake.
11.00 Story Circle – bring a new story you are working on and practice with your peers.
12.30 Lunch – best to bring your own as shops not nearby.
1.30 – 4pm Workshop
Body Eloquence with Ebba Bodame
You will discover that energy fields of different organs attract different personalities and as we talk about a person speaking from the heart this work shows that a storyteller could speak also from the kidneys, spleen and other organs. By gaining an understanding of Body Eloquence, new paths for story telling open up, particularly the art of healing stories. Please wear comfortable clothes.
Cost – full day/workshop - $25 members; $35 non-members; $30 concessions. Morning session only $10.
Bookings and enquiries – phone Sue on 9977 0331.
FORTHCOMING EVENTS - MARCH 2009
Sunday 15 March – St Patrick’s Day at Vienna Cottage, 38 Alexander Street, Hunters Hill. 11am – 3pm
Saturday 28 / Sunday 29 March – Norman Lindsay Children’s Literature Festival, Norman Lindsay Gallery, 14 Norman Lindsay Crescent, Faulconbridge via Springwood Blue Mountains. 10am – 3pm each day.
CALL FOR STORYTELLERS
We need volunteer Tellers for both these exciting events in March.
St Patrick’s Day is all about Irish stories for children and adults – two programs run concurrently. Last year our 12 storytellers were kept busy throughout the day and it was a great fun – everyone in green and leprechauns appeared when least expected.
The Norman Lindsay weekend is stories for children and families. We have the storytelling courtyard and there’ll be non-stop storytelling from 10am until 3pm each day. Come for one day or make a weekend of it. Shuttle buses meet the train at Springwood. Performing storytellers have free entry.
Please contact Sue on 9977 0331 if you wish to be included in these programs.
ST PATRICK’S DAY RAFFLE
Our first big fund raising event for the year is the St Patrick’s Day raffle at Vienna Cottage. Our organiser for the raffle is Maggie Newlyn and she’d love to hear from you. Please email Maggie on maggie.newlyn@optus.com.au or bring your contribution to our meeting on 14 February at the Writers’ Centre.
