Newsletter for October 2008

Welcome to the October 2008 Edition 16 of the Online Newsletter for The Australian Storytelling Guild (NSW) Inc. 

 

Congratulations to newly accredited members Eve Hoffstetter, Stephen Martin and Julie Mundy-Taylor.  Presentation ceremony will take place at our Guild meting on November 15.

Talking of accreditation, Stephanie Parello will be taking her accreditation on that day as well.  If any other members wish to become accredited (conditions apply!) on that date, please contact our Secretary, Sue Alvarez on (02) 9977 0331 for list of conditions and requirements asap.

 

NEW VENUE

The Hughenden Arts Hotel worked well for our regular Guild meeting in September.  Favourable comments included: “very accessible by public transport”, “bright, cheerful room”, “delicious lunch for $15”. 

 

WORKSHOP

The workshop on Fairytales with Dr Maurice Saxby and Dr Ronald McCoy proved very popular with over 30 attendees.

OCTOBER

Saturday 18 October - Tellers Tea at the Hughenden, 2 – 4pm

14 Queen Street, Woollahra

Featured tellers Mary French from Canberra and Jo Henwood will send chills up your spine with stories about crime, mystery and mayhem.  Plus Open Microphone.  Come and listen, come and tell.  All welcome!  Admission $13 non-members; $12 members and concession.  Includes Devonshire Tea.

Monday 13 October – K Street Productions present Storytelling 7.30pm

Darlinghurst Theatre, 19 Greenknowe Avenue, Potts Point.

Featuring Robin Barker and Yvette Murray, music by Ben Mattick.  All tickets $18.  Bookings (02) 8356 9987.

 

NOVEMBER

Sunday 2 November – Kids Day Out Ourimbah Campus of University of Newcastle

Julie Mundy-Taylor will tell cross-cultural stories from around the globe, accompanied by indigenous dance from the dynamic students from NAISDA.  The performances will be conducted in the upper level of the library, admission is free, and the performances are suitable for all ages.  Plenty of car parking and only 5 minutes walk from Ourimbah train station.

Tuesday 4 November – Book launch – Body Eloquence by Ashley Ramsden & Nancy Mellon Rudolf Steiner House, 307 Sussex Street Sydney, 7pm  Cost $12

Friday 7 November – Storytelling performance with Ashley Ramsden at Kamaroi School, Belrose, 7.30pm

Saturday 8 November – storytelling performance with Ashley Ramsden at Kamaroi School, Belrose, 7.30pm

Saturday 8 & Sunday 9 November – Workshop with Ashley Ramsden at Kamaroi School, Belrose, 9.30am – 3.30pm

Program for the 7th is based on poets  Rumi and Hafiz.  Performance on the 8th is the Hilarious Adventures of the Hodjah Nasruddin.

Saturday 15th November - Guild Meeting at the Hughenden

9.30am – 4pm

Morning session will include accreditation and story circle and the afternoon will feature well known author Susanne Gervay, whose topic will be on “Being Cool - communicating with today’s youth” (full details in the next on-line newsletter).

Saturday 22 November Storytelling Workshop with Jo Henwood

EXTENDED DEADLINE – There’s still time to unleash your inner foodie!

Deadline 1st December 2008

Write a short story for our Recipe Book [and possible Calendar].  The story can be about your favourite food, cooking disaster, greatest successes or it may be a short folktale featuring food, followed by a suitable recipe.  Don’t forget story maximum 500 words plus recipe.
