About Conference:

Hosted by the Australian Storytelling Guild (NSW) this conference in May 27-29, 2016 promises to provide a great opportunity for listeners and tellers of stories to develop skills, enjoy performances and interact with others who have a love of Storytelling.

Participants will be led through creative exercises to discover how and why you want to tell your stories. This masterclass presents a variety of creative storytelling challenges that help tellers interpret and style a story for performance.

Listening is a dynamic behaviour. How do we re-pay our listener for the attention they pay us? This masterclass explores performance strategies to refresh and enliven the listener.

Outlining just a few festivals from each country is not intended to diminish others not mentioned. If you are planning a trip to a specific part of a country, the information below may help you along!


In Toronto since 1978, storytellers and listeners have gathered every Friday night at a café. It started out as 1001 nights of storytelling but hasn’t stopped!

Yukon International Storytelling Festival.

An International multicultural Festival where tellers are encouraged to tell in their native language.

United States

In the U.S. more than 200 storytelling festivals every year, with the “mother” of all, the National Storytelling Festival at Jonesborough, Tennessee, now in its 39th year, attracting over 10-15,000 people every October.

Latin America

There are more than 60 international festivals devoted to storytelling in at least 15 countries in Latin

United Kingdom


In rural Shropshire every year in July, FATE takes place-Festival At The Edge. It is an annual international storytelling festival and the oldest one in England, taking place in the 3rd weekend in July.

London Centre for International Storytelling runs the Crick Crack Club and promotes performance storytelling in London and beyond. Website:

Singapore International Storytelling Festival-late Aug-early September every year

Organised by the Book Council

For master class held around same time organised by the Storytelling Association, Singapore.

Malaysia - Penang hosted its first festival for children last year called PINKS Fest.


Last National Conference held in Perth in 2005.

2010 saw the NSW Storytelling Conference ‘Weaving Stories Together” in Sydney.
